
Illinois Groundwater Flow Model
The Illinois Groundwater Flow Modeling framework development started in the fall of 2015.
The framework consists of one regional parent model that covers the northern half of Illinois and portions of Iowa, Indiana, and Wisconsin. This large model is necessary to study the regional impacts of withdrawals from the sandstone aquifer system. The model can also be refined to study smaller, local impacts, such as groundwater–surface water interactions. We established the framework so that we can update all models as new data, such as annual withdrawals, are available.
